Glass Half Fool -08/12/2011

.

it's cold out there

the bar
freezes
between your fidgets

digiting out drums on a table top
that's all uncoastered line curves
caught glances
taut smile polite
and small talk
afloat

drowned in three drinks
while practicing the strokes
of your best sharking swim
washing up sure-line
in reflexive retreat
solitary
to the toilet stall mirror

hands aren't dry
facing your eyes
as they demand answers from you
about
just
what the hell are you gonna do

when you go back out there

It's been too long since I read one of your sadder ones evidently. This is moving, especially at Christmas when so many people are feeling lonely and isolated, even in crowds at times...
My favourite lines or stanzas (and reasons next to them)

1)
the bar
freezes
between your fidgets
like the staccato rhythm that stuns and perplexes strangers

2)
caught glances
taut smile polite
and small talk
afloat
drowned in three drinks
great imagery to capture isolation and difficulty socialising

3)
hands aren't dry
facing your eyes
as they demand answers from you
the body language of discontent

Really like this one Randall. Look forward to where your poetry journeys take you in 2012!
